ENVIRONMENT I. To monitor and advise on e?cient and environmentally sound farming methods espe- cially in water basins and along the hillsides. II. To monitor new and existing residential developments especially along hillsides, and in particular, addressing issues relating to approv- als and permits for such constructions. Ill. To reintroduce the River Wardens to treat with the pollution of watercourses and rivers under Local Government jurisdiction which need desilting and dredging and to prevent pollution and dumping of waste in the rivers of Trinidad and Tobago. IV. To disaggregate solid waste into recy- clable and reusable categories and to develop an industry to recycle and reuse paper and plastics among other materials. V. To locate garbage bins strategically within each community and especially in public spaces and within public buildings so as to prevent opportunity for littering. The implementation of the Litter Act will be done along with a review of the fines and the expansion of Litter Wardens. VI. Coordinate and implement a system of solid waste removal that is timely, efficient and environmentally sound, including but not limited to well organized landfills, recycling centers and reuse depots in major community areas throughout Trinidad and Tobago. VII. To ban the illegal burning of rubbish within the municipality. VIII. To establish facilities to dispose with biomedical and hazardous waste, in keeping with international guidelines.
